Spar International has launched a website entirely dedicated to football in the run up to the World Cup.

The microsite, www.getreadyforfootball2010.com, highlights special offers for consumers and provides tips on the ideal food and drink options for those watching the World Cup either at home or in the stadium.

The site also includes a countdown to the final, live match updates and a section monitoring all match results.

Furthermore, the interactive online game Crazy Fan has now been integrated into the site, encouraging fans across the globe to send messages to their friends supporting teams from the same or rival countries before or after the matches take place.

Tobias Wasmuht, marketing director for Spar International said that football offered a great opportunity to engage with customers through viral media. He said: “Following the fantastic success of our Get Ready for Rugby site in 2007, we are confident that this initiative will raise awareness of the range of products available and drive footfall in stores,” said Wasmuht.

The website will be highlighted on the Spar International website as well as its Facebook and Twitter pages and will be supported by related point of sale materials in store.
