The company hopes to use the new collection area in Chipiona, southern Spain, to make it easier for growers of good quality products to supply the auction directly. This should increase the ability of growers to play a more active role in how their plants are marketed.
The Spanish service will involve collecting the flowers from producers, checking them for quality, preparing them for transport to the Netherlands as well as providing administration and information on how sales are progressing.
FloraHolland hopes that CCS will ensure Spanish growers see a fair return on their investments.
During the last 12 months, the Netherlands has continued to strengthen its position by increasing its total flower and plant imports to the EU. In six years the country has increased its share from 50 to 65 per cent.
More than 90 per cent of ornamental plants and flowers produced in the Netherlands, and more than 60 per cent of worldwide production, are sold via the two large Dutch auctions. And FloraHolland has acquired representatives in Israel, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Spain to help this process.
