Spanish strawberry season 'acceptable'

Freshuelva is set to end the 2007-08 Spanish strawberry campaign, concluding that it has been an “acceptable” season.

President José Manuel Romero said the forecast for 37,000 tonnes of strawberries and 10,250t of raspberries will decrease slightly.

This campaign has been unusual, following erratic weather in April and low prices in May.

The trade body, which represents 95 per cent of Huelva-based producers, was created in 1983 to promote the soft-fruit sector.
