Spanish fresh produce exports fell by four per cent year on year during the first quarter of 2009. Salad and vegetable sendings were down in volume by 12 per cent largely because of plummeting tomato exports down by 16 per cent to 389,586 tonnes due to increased competition from Morocco. Fruit sendings rose by four per cent in volume and fell by four per cent in value. Orange overseas sales were up 9.5 per cent in volume and six per cent in value, but soft citrus was disappointing and exports fell by 0.6 per cent and values falling even more: by four per cent.
