Spanish growers organisation Asaja Murcia is calling for a greater organisation in the stonefruit sector and a supply chain body to represent it.

“Now more than ever we understand the importance of order and organisation in the stonefruit sector, not just in Murcia but in the whole of Spain,” said the group secretary general Alfonso Gálvez Caravaca. “That is why we think it would be very beneficial to create an supply chain body that would also be able to carry out promotional and communications campaigns.”

Caravaca also reported that despite malaise in the Spanish fresh produce industry following the German E coli outbreak, the market is gradually returning to normal and stonefruit quality is very good this season.
