Fepex, the association which represents Spanish exporters, has claimed that fraud is taking place in import activity of tomatoes from Morocco into the EU. Fepex claims the move makes a mockery of the constraints of the existing Association Agreement, which places quotas on the tonnage of Moroccan imports allowed.
A spokeswoman told FPJ: “Despite declarations from European Commission officials that Morocco is respecting the Association Agreement with the EU, in November there has been repeated fraud in tomato imports from Morocco. This month, large volumes with prices well below the preferential entry price have continued to be imported.”
The protestations come as EU officials have reportedly travelled to Morocco to seal a new Association Agreement deal.
