They may not have been from the fruit and vegetable industry, but Adams' Aces, a trio from Spalding pork operator Geo Adams brought home the bacon in this weekend's freshinfo.com cup.

The team took part in the cup, which was contested over a gruelling sprint relay course at Europe's largest Triathlon event, narrowly beating second placed Meat and Two Veg for the coveted innaugural fruit bowl trophy.

"We entered because it seemed the competition we were most eligible for," said Dennis Owens, having just competed against international athletes including swimmers Adrian Moorhouse and James Hickman and angry chef Gordon Ramsay.

The industry cup section was a fitting finale to the two-day event, which is screened on this Saturday's BBC Grandstand, attracted more than 4,000 competitors. It featured a 1,500 metre swim, completed by the eel-like Hackett, a 20km bike-ride, which proved a breeze to Owens, and a 10km run, allowing Drayton to finish off in fine style.

The Journal also entered a team. For more, see this week's issue.
