Members of the Food & Allied Workers Union (FAWU) in South Africa have given their union a mandate to suspend strike action in farms where there is an offer on the table to pay workers “significantly more” than R100 (£7.11) a day.
They have also called on their executive to pursue the Hex Valley Table Grapes Association for further negotiations on the wage issue. FAWU, met with workers in the troubled De Doorns area in the Hex River Valley on Monday.
Strike action in the country, which has seen violent outbursts since it first started in November last year, has claimed three lives.
