Hazeldene foods is celebrating after signing up Somerfield as a new customer.
The Lancashire-based business has taken up the slack left by Del Monte’s impending Methwold factory closure to supply Somerfield with nine lines for its prepared salad range.
Ben Lainton, category buyer for Somerfield, said: “We are pleased to be working with Hazeldene on our prepared salad range and have some innovative new promotions and ideas planned for the future.”
John Gilmartin, Hazeldene Food’s commercial manager, added: “We faced some stiff opposition from our main competitors in the industry and are delighted to have taken on this new business.
“We are sure that in partnership with Somerfield we can help them drive their position as head of the high-street and local convenience sector.”
Having only moved to its new factory in Wigan and also become part of the William Jackson Group within the last 16 months, Gilmartin said the timing of the new business fits perfectly with Hazeldene’s ambitious plans for the future.
“We’ve just moved to our new factory and this is a major, major bonus,” he added.
