British strawberries have been voted shoppers’ favourite own-label product at Somerfield in a survey just published.
The online survey, highlighted in the Somerfield magazine, asked some 3,000 customers which own-label products available in store were their favourites. The research was commissioned by Somerfield online between May 1 and July 3.
British strawberries won the favourite home-grown fruit or vegetable category with just under half the vote, a margin that also earned the berries best overall product.
Ben Lainton, Somerfield’s strawberry buyer, said: “We are delighted with this result which is made even more special because it is voted for by the people who really matter - our customers. This result is testament to the hard work of our growers, suppliers, buying team and store staff.”
Somerfield and the Redeva breeding programme have also launched a competition in the August issue of the Somerfield magazine for customers to name a new strawberry variety.
The winner will see their chosen variety name on packaging throughout the UK and also bag themselves £500 in the process.
