Somerfield's latest recovery plan will see a management reshuffle into a new team to try and replicate the success of the group's Kwik Save business unit.

The group posted improved results for the last six month period making £5.6million profits and has now appointed retail operations director Bill Williams to head up its business unit. Williams, who had a 35-year career with Sainsbury's before moving to the Bristol-based chain two years ago, will be in charge of delivering a new strategy and improving customer service at all 590 stores.

Working under Williams will be commercial director Nigel Broadhurst who moves over from the successful Kwik Save business unit. Responsibility for whole-group marketing including the Somerfield brand and fascia will also move over to the new unit.
