The Soil Association is holding a series of meetings at organic farms across the UK to give farmers and growers the chance to discuss current farming issues and the association.

The meetings, which take place across Wales and England from early September to November held at Soil Association certified organic farms, will feature talks by Soil Association director Patrick Holden on changes in farming and consumer behaviour and a discussion on market challenges with Phil Stocker, director of farmer and grower relations at the association.

Phil Stocker, director of farmer and grower relations at the Soil Association, said: “These are important events which aim to inform about the Soil Association's work to create a more secure and resilient future for food production as well as discuss the issues farming is currently facing.

“With the economy still in the doldrums, climate change targets now a reality, and food security issues becoming increasingly recognised, we need to ensure environmental, animal welfare and social interests are not lost in the rush to raise production levels - it is crucial that we all communicate and pull together.

“We hope these meetings will encourage a sense of working through some of the huge issues we face together rather than in isolation.”
