The packs will be available in January

BerryWorld has unveiled its first own-branded blueberries for the snacking market - Snackerries - which are set to hit retailers in January.

The distinctive pink packs of washed and ready-to-eat fruit are aimed at the convenience and on-the-go markets. The 80g portion size is equal to one adult serving of the recommended 5 A DAY.

Lisa Hoggarth, marketing category manager at BerryWorld, told freshinfo: “We wanted to be bold and brand the product, but we did not want the pack to look too virtuous, so we made it look like a bag of sweets.

“We are hoping to get the product into as many retail outlets as possible, including forecourts and coffee shops.”

The blueberries will be imported from the usual sources all over the world to achieve 12-month supply.

The launch of Snackerries will be followed by the introduction of other lines under the brand, such as prepared strawberries with a natural yoghurt dip or a mixed berry pot, all branded in the same way.

Paul Cole, sales director at BerryWorld, said: “We constantly monitor the berry market for opportunities and it seemed to us that there was a considerable gap in the healthy snacking sector, so we developed Snackerries.

“We are very excited about the new product, not only as it is our first foray into branding, but also we believe Snackerries to be the first-ever washed and ready-to-eat blueberries available to supermarket customers. Plus, of course, with blueberries being the superfood that they are, we are also offering people a fantastic route to more healthy eating.”
