Smurfit Kappa has announced the success of a new pick’n’mix produce offer to aid sellers of loose product.

The boxes, taken up by Tesco, among others, have been on the market for around six months and have been adapted to a new 400x150mm shape that can be stacked.

The corrugated specialist believes the product, which is 100 per cent biodegradable and recyclable, will save labour through its 17 labour-saving machines, which can be used to erect them.

The boxes are available internationally, with the company operating across Europe and South America, and Smurfit Kappa offers a hands-on service when the product being packed is in season.

David Bickley, development sales manager, told freshinfo: “We are the only major corrugated company with a department dedicated solely for fresh produce so we can immerse ourselves in the product.

“We have a presence in every country in Europe so we can help on the ground and a presence in all the produce hubs in the UK. The pick’n’mix allows customers to select products, such as tomatoes, from across the range of sizes.”
