The Californian strawberry crop is now expected to take at least six weeks to recover following damage caused by freezing conditions, according to the latest assessment by the California Strawberry Commission.
The Commission reported that although it is too early to fully judge the extent of the damage, it has become clear that the effects have varied greatly depending upon the crop protection measures in place and field location.
“January and February are usually the lowest production months for strawberries and growers will do all they can to get production back to normal as soon as they can," said Mark Murai, president of the Commission.
