Six taken hostage at Rungis market

Six people were taken hostage at gunpoint this morning at the Credit Lyonnais bank which services the fruit and vegetable section of Rungis market, in Paris.

The latest reports available to freshinfo said that three of the hostages, all women, have since been released, in return for food and cigarettes for the gunmen. It is not known whether all of the remaining hostages are bank employees or customers.

An employee earlier raised the alarm after managing to escape. Police in bulletproof vests have surrounded the branch, one of about 20 banks grouped together in an area underneath the market’s administrative centre, known as "the money wall" by market employees, and cordoned off the area.
