Six students have graduated in horticultural disciplines with first class honours from Writtle College this year.
Three students graduated with a first in International Horticulture: Elsbeth Bingley, Donna Sheringham and Hannah Took, while Trevor Marlow, Leslie Shaw and Cheryl Turnbull collected their first class honours in Horticulture.
The graduates collected their degrees at a ceremony in Chelmsford Cathedral on September 11 from guest of honour and Writtle patron Alan Titchmarsh MBE.
Donna Sheringham gained her first class honours in International Horticulture after studying part-time over five years. Donna also works part-time at the College in the role of admissions tutor for the School of Horticulture. Donna said; “I am delighted to have seen all of my hard work and effort pay off so well. I enjoyed studying the International Horticulture degree, especially since I am so passionate about my subject.”
In response to all of the successes from the School of Horticulture, Martin Stimson, head of horticulture said: “The school has been so pleased this year to have so many graduates of such a high calibre. Higher education in horticulture is thriving at the college and the students and College have had a hugely memorable year what with celebrating the success of six first class honour degrees, a Silver Gilt medal at Chelsea Flower Show, the first Seabrook Scholar at Writtle and our flourishing open gardens. We will be looking forward to the same successes plus many more in the forthcoming year.”
