Sir Terry: addressing issues from Tesco perspective

Tesco chief executive Sir Terry Leahy will be the guest speaker at the 9th City Food Lecture, on January 28, 2009.

Sir Terry will spearhead the evening by addressing many of the issues affecting the food industry from a multiple retailer’s perspective. His lecture will be followed by commentaries from a panel of food specialists, chaired by Sir Stuart Hampson, recently retired chairman of the John Lewis Partnership.

The panel includes Professor Lord Krebs of Oxford University and ex-chairman of the Food Standards Agency; Peter Kendall, president of the National Farmers Union and Dr Susan Jebb, of the Medical Research Council.

The invite-only City Food Lecture event has become an established fixture in the calendars of both the food industry and the City of London, and attracts an audience of more than six hundred to Guildhall. It is organised annually by the seven City Livery Companies whose roots are in the food industry - the Worshipful Companies of Bakers, Butchers, Cooks, Farmers, Fishmongers, Fruiterers and Poulters.

Fruiterer Laurence Olins, chairman of the 2009 organising committee and architect of the event, said: “We are delighted to have Sir Terry Leahy as our guest speaker and such a distinguished panel of speakers to examine the world and local events which, over the last two years, have had profound effect on the UK food industry. We are maintaining our reputation as a premier event in the food industry calendar.”

FPJ is a sponsor of the City Food Lecture 2009.
