Sir Stuart Rose steps down

Former Marks & Spencer chairman Sir Stuart Rose stepped down from the supermarket after six years at the helm on Tuesday.

Revenue grew by some £2bn and M&S staved off a bid from Sir Philip Green under his leadership, but Rose attracted criticism through his dual role as executive chairman and high profile lifestyle. He has been replaced as chairman by Robert Swannell.

Also this week, Asda’s Andy Bond stepped down as part-time chairman. The former ceo will work for parent company Wal-Mart until late March.
