The Hand Labelling System will be on show in Berlin

Sinclair is to debut its new Variable Print System (VPS) as well as its new Hand Labelling System (HLS) at Fruit Logistica next week.

Whereas traditionally variable information such as barcodes, dates and in some cases batch numbers have to be pre-printed on individual produce labels, the Sinclair VPS system prints this information at the point of application.

Sinclair VPS is the product of several years# development work at the California-based company and utilises cutting edge, non-contact, laser-printing technology.

Rick Goddard, Sinclair senior vice-president of marketing, said: “The VPS will help simplify label inventory stocking requirements, particularly for customers with a large variety of labels, as well as allowing them the flexibility in their labelling programmes to add dates or lot numbers to the labels... inventory proliferation due to multiple PLU or barcode labels has proven a logistical and financial challenge for many packers, especially in the US, and for packers supplying the US market.”

The HLS system utilises a fixed counterbalancing arm while a 30-50,000 label roll is carried, not by the operator, but by the anchored HLS fixture.

Sinclair believes that the new system will give packers more flexibility when labelling smaller consignments that are not run down automated weight and sorting packing lines.
