Fruit from the National Fruit Show went down a storm with Wisley consumers

Taking most of the National Fruit Show competition fruit to the Royal Horticultural Society Garden’s Wisley ‘Autumn Event’ proved a huge success last weekend.

“The fact was that 22,500 visitors came to the event over the three days and had the opportunity to sample and buy the best of British fruit,” said Robert Oliver, vice chairman of the Marden Fruit Show Society, which organises the National Fruit Show.

He added that there was a wide range of apples and pear varieties shown of superb quality and particularly Cox, still the nation’s favourite dessert apple, which won the Tastiest Apple Competition this year at the Show.

More than 2,000 kilos of the prize apples and pears were sold during the Wisley event to visitors, and more supplies had to be brought in.

Also during the event, the English Apples & Pears promotional team served 6,000 portions of Bramley apple pie and cream to visitors.
