Sharpak leads the way

Sharpak has set an agenda to include more than 60 per cent recycled materials in its packaging.

Following the recent prosecution of a thermoformed plastic packaging manufacturer, which deliberately flouted regulations introduced to protect the environment; Sharpak has decided to show the industry exactly where it stands.

The company’s new agenda will mean that SP trays manufactured in R-Apet will contain more than 60 per cent recycled materials.

Sharpak has become the first choice for retailers addressing the environmental concerns of its customers.

Sharpak is addressing retailer and consumer concerns engraving the underside of its trays with the wording: ‘can be recycled where facilities exist’ and ‘contains recycled materials’.

Packaging regulations came into force on March 6, 1997; encouraging companies that handle packaging to reduce the environmental impact of packaging and packaging waste. The regulations place an obligation on companies to meet recycling and recovery targets for packaging waste, and encourages the minimization and reuse of packaging. All producers of packaging with an annual turnover in excess of £2 million and handling in excess of 50 tonnes of packaging are bound by this legislation.

Sharpak will continue to lobby tirelessly for a better cleaner environment and a future, where all waste can be sensibly and economically recycled.
