Plastics packaging manufacturer Sharp Interpack has opened a distribution centre in Carnoustie to better serve the Scottish market, following its recent marketing campaign in Scotland.
Working with principal Scottish growers, Sharp Interpack’s new distribution centre will offer packaging for the Scottish soft-fruit sector, seven days a week.
With production plants in Kent, Somerset and Bristol, and bases in the Netherlands and Spain to serve Europe, the company has identified Scotland as a key growth market.
Gemma Clayhills-Henderson, packing hall manager at Berry Gardens grower Geoffrey Bruce Ltd, said: “We welcome the opening of the new distribution centre in Carnoustie - as a company that supplies to local markets, we are also keen to purchase from a local source.
“Based in Perthshire, we are quite some distance from the majority of UK food packaging providers and as a result, haulage costs are always on the agenda. Sharp Interpack’s decision to open in Scotland offers continuity of supply from a relatively local distribution centre, reducing our haulage costs.”
