Sex sells garlic

Garlic sales were boosted by almost a third after it was named an aphrodisiac in adverts for a BBC food show, according to supermarket giant Asda.

Trailers for The Truth About Food, which was aired last night, asked whether garlic is a natural alternative to Viagra and shows news-reader Fiona Bruce asking people to eat raw garlic to improve their sex lives.

Asda, which reported a 32 per cent sales increase, has ordered extra stock.
