The Seatrade shipping group has announced more new buildings of reefer vessels.

After having declared the option for a fifth and six newbuilding in May 2008, the group said on July 1 it is ordering another two new specialised reefer vessels.

The vessels will be built at Kithanion shipyard in Japan with expected delivery between 2013 and early 2014.

“The vessels will have a similar design to the first series of six with a capacity of 650,000 cb ft and a large container capacity,” said a spokesperson. “Seatrade continues to seek opportunities to acquire additional vessels to its fleet, which has recently

been demonstrated with the earlier reported purchase of the five Phoenix types, Atlantic and Pacific Reefer as well as the Maritime del Norte fleet.

This transaction is part of Seatrade’s strategy to provide its customers with high quality and cost-effective refrigerated ships.”
