Scotty Brand's Scottish strawberries and raspberries are being listed in Asda stores across the UK, as well as Morrisons stores in Scotland.
Scotty, the Albert Bartlett-backed umbrella brand for seasonal Scottish produce, confirmed that its raspberries will be ripe for picking from July to August, with strawberries expected to hit supermarkets later this month.
The berries, which are primarily grown in the Perthshire region, represent excellent value for money, according to Michael Jarvis, marketing manager of Scotty Brand.
He said: “Scotty Brand soft fruits are an exciting addition to our portfolio during the summer months. We are delighted to secure listings nationwide and are committed to delivering the very best Scottish-grown produce that tastes great, is good value and healthy and our soft fruit distribution is testament to this.”
Furthermore, Scotty Brand has been confirmed as the official strawberry partner of the Brodies Champions of Tennis tournament in Edinburgh. Wimbledon semi-finalist Tim Henman and tennis legend John McEnroe will both be taking part in the tournament.
Meanwhile, Scotty Brand tomatoes are also going into stores in June. The new addition 500g Scotty Brand Special Tomato Selection pack includes Encore, a large slicing tomato, with a great firm texture; Ardilles, a medium plum tomato with a full flavour and juicy texture, and Lajaune Yellow cherry tomatoes.
Jarvis concluded: “Scotty Brand tomatoes are grown by Clyde Valley Tomatoes, based near Carluke. Up to the 1970s, the area provided [a share of] the UK’s tomato crop but the industry declined in the face of cheaper imports. Clyde Valley has revived the industry and is passionate about its tomatoes which are fresher, more aromatic and more flavour-some than most on the market.”
