Scores of schools are still being built or refurbished without proper kitchens, according to a new report, despite government promises to improve youngsters healthy eating.
A survey by Cardiff University, commissioned by Unison, found that out of hundreds of building and refurbishment schemes under the Private Finance Initiative, one in six were not equipped to cook fresh food from scratch.
A government spokesman said providing kitchen facilities was a priority, although some groups of schools shared catering facilities.
