French company Saveol had six new types on show in Berlin. Product manager Anne-Laure Levieux said they included Noire-de-Crimée (black Crimea tomatoes), the brownish-purple variety with a soft flesh and a delicate, sweet aroma, which also looks great with a salad, as well as the Cerise Rubis (ruby cherry tomato), a small, firm tomato that looks like a double string of beads and is ideal with any kind of table decoration.
As an aperitif Saveol also showcased its “Duo-tray”, with a choice of either red or yellow cherry tomatoes, and the elongated red and orange Cours-de-Pigeon.
Saveol is the market leader in the French tomato sector, with 200 hectares under cultivation, annual production of 75,000 tonnes and sales totalling €115 million.
