Sato goes softly softly

Sato UK has launched a new series of user-friendly economy label applicators targeted at the fresh produce industry.

The Sato AL800 series has been engineered by the company from scratch to set new price/performance standards for on-line label applicators.

This compact low-cost unit is designed to be easy to use and maintain but robust and reliable in everyday use and is ideal as an entry-level system for businesses needing automatic labelling for the first time. It can be used to add primary and decorative labels to a wide variety of packs in the food and manufacturing sectors.

"Many businesses don't need to pay for sophisticated, high-speed application technology," explained SATO marketing manager David Roome. "They just want a simple, reliable system that does the job. That's what this new series is built for."

The AL800 series applies labels from 15mm-200mm long and 15mm - 80mm wide at selectable speeds from 5m to 30m per minute to the top, side or bottom of packs. A sponge roller ensures the labels are applied without wrinkling and adhere firmly. Depending on the position and orientation of the packaging line, there is a choice of two different flow configurations, left to right or right to left.

A useful LCD screen gives step-by-step instructions, warnings, error messages and hardware status information. Selecting different operational options - apply speed and position, for example - is easily achieved with a jog dial. Label loading is trouble-free and fast too with just a single lever. There is even a voice alert system telling the operator of any errors that need their attention, reducing any potential downtime or wastage.

Sato is targeting the packs at punneted and flow-wrapped produce such as stone fruit or tomatoes and even fresh prepared salads and fruit salads in lidded bowls.
