Leading European logistics specialist Christian Salvesen is set to re-organise its structure in the face of sustained growth.

Recently appointed chief executive Stewart Oades announced the management restructure, which will see the introduction of autonomous business units directly responsibility for delivering their own results.

The de-centralised structure is designed to support the company’s core strategic activities of transportation and food and consumer logistics.

Oades said: “Having completed my induction and familiarisation with the business I have been impressed with the dedication, energy and commitment of colleagues.

“We are operating in a competitive environment but with a clear and focused strategy and strengthened management capability, we have a business with a strong future. I will be outlining our strategy to colleagues, customers and investors in the near future.”

Oades will oversee all business unit directors, other than CS Foods, the vegetable processing and sales business, headed by Colin Miles, which will continue to report to Julian Steadman, group finance director.

Salvesen has recruited Stephen Hayward, who has extensive leadership experience in the UK parcel and pallet networks, to manage the UK transport division.

Meanwhile, the food and consumer and transport sectors will continue as before.

Brian Gaunt leads the UK food and consumer business, Danny Van Himste continues to be responsible for European operations, and Roy Attenborough continues to lead the support services activities.

The transport sector has operations in France, Iberia and the UK. Darfeuille in France continues to be led by Didier Darfeuille and Steve MacDonald will still lead Gerposa the Iberian network business.
