Global logistics organisation Damco has announced that Lee Cartwright has been appointed as the new UK head of airfreight sales, based in Heathrow.

Cartwright joins the group after more than 20 years in the logistics and freight forwarding industry, most recently occupying the role of business development manager for Allport, a position he held for eight years.

"We have ambitions plans to grow our air and sea-air business and appointing a senior commercial manager with Lee's extensive background and experience and proven track record will undoubtedly ensure that we meet our aspirations," said Richard Morgan, Damco's chief commercial officer for UK and Ireland.

Cartwright added: "As a truly global forwarder with our own Damco offices worldwide, our clearly defined 'Go to Market' strategy has already seen significant new airfreight wins in 2010 from larger clients, whose expectations of progressive innovation and improved responsiveness have been fully met. This has enabled us to build a very strong platform to continue delivering our ambitious growth plans."
