Salad specialist Florette won the Enterprise award at the Food Processing magazine awards, and its success was down to the efforts of an enterprising employee.

David Nicholson who is employed in the raw materials department nominated the company, which was commended on its young, forward-looking and motivating policies. Nicholson said: 'Florette's factory opened in July 1999 with 40 staff, and in that time the company has expanded dramatically and now employs over 250 staff as productivity continues to grow.' Managing director Gerard Lacey was delighted on accepting the award. He said: 'Florette has a policy of attracting and promoting young people, offering jobs, responsibility and rewards for initiative. With plans to double factory production, we look forward to making an even greater contribution to the area.' The company's most recent initiative, 'Florette's National Salad Week' was a big success. It took place between July 7-14 and was launched by chef Raymond Blanc. The week was established to encourage people to focus on salads, experimenting with exciting recipes and ingredients.
