Sainsbury's unveils new graduate programme

Sainsbury's has launch a new graduate training programme to begin next year.

The 2020 Leaders Programme will offer 20 opportunities in three areas -operations, commercial and people - from next year.

The programme has been created to help identify the next generation of business talent, generating future managers at both Sainsbury’s and the wider industry.

The graduates on Sainsbury's 2020 Leaders Programme will benefit from a radically different programme to that enjoyed by previous years. The programme has been completely redeveloped to ensure graduates will receive exposure to the entire Sainsbury's business and take on responsibility more quickly than ever before.

All of the graduates will start the programme with a four-month placement in a store over the busy Christmas period and then conduct a series of placements and projects right across the Sainsbury's business.

Graduates starting on the programme will receive a starting salary of £32,000 as well as a number of other benefits including a colleague discount card, pension and eligibility for a bonus scheme that has paid out over £350 million over the last five years.

Gwyn Burr, Sainsbury's customer service and colleague director, said: "We recognise that for Sainsbury's to continue to be one of the world's leading retailers we need exceptional individuals that are not only ambitious but also display outstanding intellect. The graduates we are looking for will be hungry for success, demand responsibility and see themselves as a future leader within just a few years.

“…Unlike many other graduate schemes, Sainsbury's graduates will enjoy regular access to Directors and other members of the senior management team. This, alongside the skills they will quickly develop, will equip them with everything they need for a successful career.
