Sainsbury's top salary revealed

Sainsbury’s chief executive Justin King made £6.1 million in salary, bonus and shares last year, it was revealed last week.

He was awarded 1.6m free shares last month - half of which he could cash immediately, which were worth £3.1m at the time. He will receive the other half next May.

He will pick up more free shares, worth a further £2.7m at yesterday's price, next May, it was reported in the Guardian.

King, who was paid £2.1m in salary and annual bonus for the year to the end of March, also picked up £850,000 worth of shares as part of an older bonus plan.
