Sainsbury’s has altered its home delivery operations in a bid to boost its service levels.

Following a six-month benchmarking exercise, the retailer decided to take its Sainsbury’s to You delivery operations in house.

The study revealed that changing from an out-sourced operation would mean a far better quality of service for all customers.

Along with the switch, Sainsbury’s has also chosen to consolidate its fleet of 450 vehicles with Petit Forestier, a market leader in the supply and maintenance of refrigerated vehicles.

Jason Soar, StY delivery operations manager, said: “The in-sourcing of our delivery drivers is the most significant move we have made to ensure our doorstep delivery is the best in class.

“The strong performance from Petit Forestier over the last three years made the decision to move to a single supplier of refrigerated vehicles an easy one.”
