Sainsbury's says forget stains, go golden

Sainsbury’s is to market its new golden raspberries as a stain-free alternative to traditional red varieties.

The Sussex-grown fruit, which hit the shelves on Wednesday, has a honey-like taste and is slightly sweeter than its red counterparts.

The retailer claims the light-coloured fruit is set to “save the nation millions of pounds in dry cleaning bills” as it does its bit to support consumers through the credit crunch.

The golden raspberries will retail at the same price as a traditional variety, at £1.99 for 150g.

Sainsbury’s raspberry technologist Peter Czarnobaj said: “Golden raspberries are really eye-catching and are a great way to encourage kids to eat more fruit - they are also packed with goodness. The biggest bonus is that they don’t stain like the red raspberries.”
