Sainsbury’s plays cue-pid

Sainsbury’s has revealed its soppy side this Valentine’s Day with the launch of a heart-shaped cucumber.

Just in time for the most romantic day of the year, the vegetable hit selected stores for the first time last Wednesday.

The heart-shaped cucumbers have been in development by English Village Salads (EVS), part of the Bakkavör group, for almost a year.

The EVS team enthusiastically rose to the challenge of producing the shaped cucumbers in Southern Spain in order to hit the Valentine’s launch.

The company said: “The heart-shaped cucumbers are slightly smaller than a standard cucumber, which makes them sweeter and tastier.”

The cucumbers are being sold in half portions and are in selected Sainsbury’s store now.
