Sainsbury’s has launched an award-winning salad range from UK vertical farm GrowUp.

Named Unbeleafable, the retailer will stock two of the ready-to-eat, UK-grown bagged salads from the new range, including the Mild Mixed Baby Leaves and Rocket and Baby Leaves.

Unbeleafable leaves are grown, and packed, in a controlled environment at GrowUp’s vertical farm in Kent.

The farm uses state-of-the-art technology to create the ideal environment for the leaves to thrive, ensuring they receive the optimal balance of water, light and nutrients.

Additionally, the Unbeleafable collection was the first range of salads to be launched by a vertical farm in the UK.

The farm is powered completely by renewable energy using electricity from the bioenergy plant next door.

Whilst the farm is currently expanding, it aims to grow everything using 94 per cent less water than conventionally produced bagged salads once it reaches full potential.

UK MD and chief commercial officer at GrowUp, Will Howard, said: “We are thrilled to secure a listing for our award-winning Unbeleafable salad range in selected Sainsbury’s stores across the country.

“Growing food that reduces the environmental impact of getting healthy food out to consumers is what we are all about at GrowUp.

“We are excited that our UK-grown Unbeleafable range is now in Sainsbury’s stores, helping to get this new product, which is low on impact and big on flavour, onto the nation’s plates.”
