Two lucky Jazz apple consumers are set to jet off to New Orleans thanks to a competition organised by Worldwide Fruit and Sainsbury’s.
As part of a promotion to introduce the new variety, Sainsbury’s ran an in-store promotion, featuring apple tasting sessions and an on-pack customer competition to win a trip to the jazz capital of America, across all its stores.
The lucky two winners were Jacqueline Doyle from Belfast and Margaret Jacobson from Ruislip, west London.
Worldwide is aiming to make Jazz the next major apple brand, following in the footsteps of Braeburn and Pink Lady.
Developed in New Zealand, the apple made its debut on the UK market this June, with the final few cases being sold this month. WWF is tipping Jazz to be a £25m brand within five years.
Neil Gibson, Sainsbury’s fruit buyer, said he has high hopes for Jazz: “If the impact it made with our customers this year can be maintained over the next few years, I see no reason why Jazz cannot achieve its sales target.
“It’s attributes are a perfect fit with our customers profile, offering a crisp juicy apple with excellent flavour.”
