Sainsbury’s is claiming its bid to tackle children’s health has proved a resounding hit.
More than 4,200 schools have signed up to the Active Kids campaign, which allows parents to collect vouchers for sports equipment with every £10 spent in store from March 2, onwards.
To encourage healthier eating, customers are also able to earn an extra voucher for every £5 they spend on fresh produce.
The retailer said the number of schools signed up represents around 13 per cent of the total number of primary and secondary schools in the country, representing the urgent need for school sporting equipment.
A spokesman said: “The campaign is designed to encourage children and young people to understand the importance of healthy eating and being active.”
