Sainsbury’s supply situation is facing further disruption next week as a potential strike looms at its East Kilbride distribution centre.

Logistics operators Excell, which runs the site for the retailer, is holding crisis talks to avoid industrial action which could see 300 workers down tools over a pay dispute.

Last week, workers rejected a 2.5 per cent pay increase and voted to strike for an increase from £6.18 to £7 an hour.

The action comes on top of Sainsbury’s struggles to handle glitches in its new distribution system, caused by failed software and automated depots.

The Transport and General Workers Union said no decision on the timescale of any strike action had been made, but the union has to give Sainsbury’s seven days notice before any strike.
