Sainsbury's checks health of customers

Shoppers at Sainsbury's can have their blood pressure and cholesterol levels checked when they buy the weekly groceries under a new scheme.

The supermarket has linked up with Bupa to offer a range of mini health checks in stores under the banner of The Healthpoint Initiative. It is being tested in two South London stores and there are plans to extend the scheme nationwide soon.

A team of four will man a small waiting area and a consultation room at the Vauxhall and Merton stores. Customers who sign up for the top price health check, at £25 will receive a heart risk check, blood pressure and cholesterol tests. A £15 fee pays for a 15-minute lifestyle consultation with a nurse, while a personal lifestyle health questionnaire costs £12.50.

Jenny Garden, new business development manager for Sainsbury’s, said: “Research shows that selected health services would be welcomed by our customers. We believe this partnership with Bupa offers the best quality to customers.”
