Sainsbury’s is to create 1,300 jobs in Scotland.
The new positions will be created by the addition of two stores in Strathaven and Prestwick and the extension of existing premises in Scotland.
Scotland’s first minister Alex Salmond said: “Sainsbury’s decision to create almost 1,300 new jobs in Scotland by summer 2010 will deliver a significant boost to the economy.”
Sainsbury’s currently employs 600 people in 38 stores in Scotland.
