Sainsbury's black tomato is back

Sainsbury’s is set to re-launch its successful black tomato - the Kumato.

The retailer said the product went down a storm last season, selling out in less than four weeks off the back of a media frenzy.

Now Clancy McMahon, fresh produce buyer, is aiming to repeat the success with the sweet tasting product, but this time with far greater volumes.

“The Kumato will be going into 120 stores at the beginning of December and we’re hoping to have it on shelf until the beginning of February.

“Last year, we only trialed the product for four weeks but we had a fantastic consumer response to it and we’re hoping to repeat that success this year. Kumato has been nominated for a Q Award and is exclusive to Sainsbury’s. It’s very exciting,” she added.
