Sainsbury's is hoping to expand its exotic offer into the convenience sector with the launch of ready-to-eat packs of coconut and pomegranate.
The coconut packs are set to hit stores from the end of June, with the flesh removed from its shell and cut into bite size pieces.
Sainsbury's said it has developed a process which minimises moisture loss so the coconut reaches the shelves fresh and succulent.
The pomegranate pack, which is prepared by hand, is set to be launched in September.
Cathy Port, category manager, said: "Exotic fruits are often perceived as being complicated to prepare. By offering ready prepared coconut and pomegranate in these convenient packs, it's now even easier for our customers to eat healthily and helps Sainsbury's achieve one of their goals to make customer's lives easier."
