South African farmers’ union Agri SA has condemned the 52 per cent increase in the national minimum wage for farm workers announced last week by the agriculture ministry.
Johannes Möller, Agri SA president, said it “has not duly taken into account the implications for agriculture and employment which will have drastic implications for this and related sectors.
'This is especially true for labour-intensive sub-sectors where individual farmers will now have to make tough decisions.”
