Last summer, Rungis signed a partnership protocol with Mercamadrid, its equivalent wholesale giant in the Spanish capital city.

This autumn, the market has taken another step in the development of its international relations: Rungis will be permanently represented at New Covent Garden (NCG), thanks to the strong and fruitful contacts that it has enjoyed with its London counterpart since 2006.

Charles Davous, 24, should arrive at NCG at the end of this month, and he will be located in the market authority’s office. “I will have three main missions,” he told freshinfo. “Firstly, I will work to improve the Rungis brand image, for example by participating in major professional events in the UK. I will also help NCG and Rungis wholesalers get in touch with each other. Finally, I will meet with English retailers and catering companies.”

Davous, right, will not be selling food or products from France: this does not fall under his remit.

Rather, people in Rungis will see him as a kind of ambassador of the Rungis brand, what is known in France as a ‘facilitateur’.

Two business-to-business visits are already set up, one from France to London and vice versa.

And for the second time, Rungis will be exhibiting at the next Hotelympia fair, probably on a shared booth with NCG.
