Rudolph potatoes return to Asda

Asda is showing festive cheer once again this year with tinkling sleigh-bells heralding the return of its Rudolph potato.

This week sees the return of the festively named Rudolph potato variety into Asda stores nationwide for its second season, following the spud’s successful launch last year.

The Rudolph potatoes, which are exclusive to Asda, are large in size with a vibrant red skin and contrasting snow-white flesh.

Asda spokesperson Drew Kirk said: “The festively named Rudolph potato hits the shelf in Asda stores for Christmas. Ideal for roasting, this large, bright red potato with very white flesh has real appeal at this time of the year. The product is very distinctive, with its novel packaging, which of course includes a picture of Santa’s lead Reindeer himself.”

The distinctive potatoes are grown by Agrimarc for Asda on behalf of Fenmarc Produce. Mark Taylor, md of Agrimarc, said: “Rudolph catches the eye with its striking colour. Having gained your interest with its appearance it then delivers with its taste and texture, and its great all-round cooking qualities.”

Fenmarc Produce supplies Asda with fresh potatoes and vegetables from two factories based in Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire.

The Rudolph potatoes, which are available in 2kg packs, are reportedly best when roasted and are likely to give the Christmas dinner a certain glow.
