Tex Starr Distributing in south Texas has launched a new sweet papaya variety, Royal Star.
Developed by Semillas del Caribe, the new variety is grown in Colima in Mexico and once volumes increase, Tex Starr hopes to be able to export year round to the UK and other European markets.
Royal Star is characterised by its high juice content, extra sweet flavour, deep red flesh and star-shaped cavity in the centre and extended shelf life.
“Foodies, chefs, health and adventure eaters alike are searching for the next big culinary ingredient and we intend to give them Royal Star,” said Tex Starr grower and proprietor David Peterson.
