Carshalton Boys Sports College isn’t often the location for red carpet events, but the school hall more resembled the Odeon in Leicester Square on première night this week as Prince Charles and Jamie Oliver hobnobbed with the likes of Raymond Blanc and mulled over the future of healthy eating in Britain (see p4).

Witnessing the extraordinary transformation of a school flunking spectacularly into one of high achievement on the back of improved teaching and, crucially, an integrated gardening and healthy eating strategy, the high-profile guests urged more schools, hospitals and private businesses to follow Carshalton’s lead.

Like Oliver and the Prince of Wales, Theresa Huxley is a friend of the industry. That’s not often a phrase growers tend to say about retailer staff, but in nearly two decades at Sainsbury’s Huxley has proved that it’s possible to work in the interests of both producers and supermarkets.

Her dedication and passion for the job continues to amaze, and she has been a force for good in the trade – the warmth with which suppliers talk of her speaks volumes of the impact she has had. You can read our exclusive interview on p18-20.
